Joan Thomas
Joan Thomas won the women’s Tri-State Classic a record eight times. She was a perennial member of the Joplin Women’s Horton Smith Cup team and was medalist of the event 26 times. She was a medalist in the Missouri Amateur Championship and was the runner up of the tournament twice. Victories also include the 1955 Women’s Amateur Championship in Puerto Rico, the Southeast Iowa Amateur Championship, and the Club Championship at Twin Hills Country Club a record 29 times. Joan participated in the 1964 U.S. Amateur at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kansas.

In 1973 Joan became the president of the Missouri Women’s Golf Association. She was elected to the Joplin Golf Hall of Fame in 1985, and was inducted into the Ozarks Golf Hall of Fame in 2004. Mrs. Thomas passed away Friday, February 10, 2006, at the age of 73.
