James Hatfield
James “Jim” Hatfield was born in Stearns, Kentucky in 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. While serving the military took up the peak years of his golf career, Jim would return to form quickly to win the Ozark Amateur championship in 1960 and 1961 at Schifferdecker golf course in Joplin. Jim made the most of his years on the Senior P.G.A Tour from 1984 to 1991. In 1990, Hatfield had his best tournament on the senior tour when he finished in 42nd place at the Gatlin Brothers Southwest Classic at Fairway Oaks Country Club in Abilene, Texas. His years on the senior tour put him number 441 in career earnings with $56,270 earned. Hatfield played in a U.S. Open and three Senior U.S. Opens. He was inducted into the Joplin Golf Hall of Fame in 1997. During his final years, Mr. Hatfield was a teaching professional in and around Bella Vista, Arkansas. Jim died on July 1, 2005 in Rogers, Arkansas.
