Cathy and Sam Reynolds
Cathy Reynolds was born in July of 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her father and golf pro, Sam Reynolds, put a golf club in the Cathy’s hands at the age of five. After years of working with Sam at Hickory Hills Country Club, Cathy went on to win the Missouri State Junior Amateur in 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1975. She qualified for the U.S. Open at the age of 15, which was a record that would be held for several years. In 1976 Cathy won the Missouri State Amateur Championship at Hickory Hills. As Cathy entered Glendale High School there was not a girl’s team, so obviously Cathy became a star for the boy’s team.

While growing up playing junior golf tournaments, Cathy grew close to fellow amateur Nancy Lopez. Both Cathy and Nancy felt going to the L.P.G.A. Tour was just around the corner as they were finishing high school. Both found that Tulsa University was building a top rate women’s golf team. After heading to Tulsa for college, Cathy had one of her best years as an amateur. In 1977 she was ranked as the second best amateur in the country. That year she would win the Mexican Amateur and the Trans-National at Southern Pines, North Carolina over Beth Daniel. Cathy would last at Tulsa three years before deciding to leave to join the L.P.G.A. in 1978.

Cathy won her first tour event during her fourth year on tour in 1981 at the Golden Lights Championship in Greenwich, Connecticut. 1981 was Cathy’s best year on tour finishing 20th on the money list. She played on the L.P.G.A. tour for 17 years and played in 13 U.S. Opens.
